Neil spoke at East Devon District Council's 'Working Together' event on confronting the challenges of an ageing population.
In the next twenty years, the number of people over age of 85 is expected to double. There has also been a rise in long-term health problems like dementia, diabetes and asthma. One in four people now has one of these problems. In the South West, these challenges will be particularly acute as the population ages faster than in other regions of the UK.
Neil spoke on how we confront these problems and improve the way in which health and social care works together. He also touched on the importance of ensuring the elderly and vulnerable are treated as near as possible to their homes, close to their relatives and friends.
