A key manifesto pledge to extend the Devon Metro through Mid Devon and rebuild Cullompton railway station is one step closer.
As part of the #restoringyourrailway fund, the Department for Transport have given the green light to business case funding which moves the project one step closer to spades in the ground. Rebuilding Cullompton station is expected to cost around £10 million and would be part of a new metro link through Wellington and up to Taunton, from Exeter.
Neil commenting on the funding said "It is a relief to get through this first stage of government backing. Both myself and Rebecca Pow have worked hard to ensure Ministers are aware of how important this project is for our area. The work and co-ordination from local district councils, Mid Devon and Somerset West and Taunton, putting in the hard yards - has been crucial. I think this project is ready for lift-off and can be done quickly to the benefit of our towns. It will help economic development, provide opportunities for education and travel between towns and major local cities, and reduce congestion on our roads too".
