Neil attended the launch of the Peninsula Rail Task Force's Report on Rail Resilience.
The Report is called 'Closing the Gap'. It details the vision for planned investment to achieve a modern, resilient and fast rail network that will unlock the full economic potential of the South West region. It reflects a strong, united campaign across the Peninsula for real change.
‘Closing the Gap’ has been developed in response to the Government’s invitation to the Task Force to develop a 20-year rail investment strategy for the South West Peninsula, working with the Department for Transport and Network Rail.
The report estimates investment in the rail network could unlock and extra £7.2bn of economic growth in the South West.
In response to the report, Neil said:
"It's a really strong report and shows the strength of feeling among all South West MPs to ensuring our region gets its fair share of investment."
"The Government now needs to make sure they invest in our rail network and ensure it is fit for purpose. There's a clear plan of action. Transport Ministers now need to follow through on their promises to the South West."
