Neil Parish meets Openreach Engineers

Neil congratulates residents of Cullompton who have been working with Openreach to bring Full Fibre broadband to their town.

In 2020, Openreach asked the community of Cullompton to get behind a bid to bring more ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband to their town.

Neil visited in December and met Openreach engineers who live and work in the town and gained a better understanding of the difference ultrafast broadband will make.

Openreach had already announced that it would be building a new, gigabit-capable network, where fibre is run directly from the exchange all the way to each property, but residents and businesses were urged to consider pooling Government-funded Rural Gigabit Vouchers to help extend the build.

And they did! As a result, the fastest, most reliable broadband speeds in the UK are heading to Cullompton.

Neil said:

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has pledged a voucher - they’ve done their bit to help make Cullompton one of the best-connected places in the West Country.

Those who have pledged should look out for an email from the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and respond to it within 28 days to validate their claim. It’s essential for pledges to be validated to enable the additional build to go ahead.

Pledging a voucher is a commitment to order a Full Fibre service which at least doubles your current speeds and is more than 30 Mbps, for a minimum of 12 months once the technology is available. The Openreach network is used by hundreds of different suppliers so you can opt for the service provider of your choice.

It’s great news for Cullompton that this technology is on its way and it’s all down to the local community coming together to make it happen.

I look forward to continuing my work with Openreach and our local authorities to ensure more communities can access Full Fibre broadband and get connected.”

Anyone who hasn’t yet pledged their Rural Gigabit Voucher still can at www.openreach.co.uk/connectmycommunity but there’s only one pledge per premises and the current scheme closes on the 31st March 2021.
