Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish has today pledged to back the Freedom and Autonomy for Schools National Association (FASNA)’s campaign which calls on party leaders and education leads to commit to protecting freedom and autonomy in schools.
Local headteacher Paul Evans at Colyton Grammar School has signed a letter alongside 200 headteachers asking the major parties to promise to:
- protect freedoms, including; powers over the curriculum and control over pay and conditions for school staff
- commit to parity with maintained schools’ access to revenue and capital funding
- preserve autonomous schools’ freedom to improve standards in less successful schools without outside interference and intervention
