English Wine Champion

Neil presented awards at the UK Vineyard's Association's English Wine of the Year Event as the new Parliamentary English Wine Champion.

Neil spoke to English Wine chiefs about his new role championing the industry in Parliament and raising key issues with Government Ministers.

English Wine is a booming industry. There are more than 500 commercial vineyards in England and Wales. The acreage of planted vines has more than doubled in last 10 years and is set to increase by a further 50% by 2020. English sparkling wine is now considered by experts as close in quality to some of the best in the world.

Neil said:

“The English Wine industry is going from strength to strength. The quality is rising year on year and more people are buying the produce – both at home and abroad.”

“It’s an honour to accept the role of English Wine Champion and help to ensure the industry has the best possible representation in Parliament to solve key industry issues. Especially as we negotiate Brexit, it’s vital the industry gets a fair deal on issues like regulation, duties, tariffs and barriers to export.”

“I look forward to cracking on with the role and championing this great English success story in Parliament.”
