Neil attended the launch of the Culm Valley Dementia Action Alliance at Cafe Walrond.
The event was both an Information Fair on dementia and an opportunity to present to people who have undergone Dementia Awareness training. It showcased the work of the group in helping Culm Valley to become a Dementia Friendly Community.
Neil spoke at the event about the importance of promoting dementia friendly communities in Devon, which has an ageing population and increased incidence of dementia.
"There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. A full 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia and these numbers will be even higher in Devon."
"It's fantastic that the Culm Valley Dementia Action Alliance are being so proactive in raising these issues in our community. Early diagnosis and spotting the signs of dementia is key."
"It's also vital we ensure as many local people as possible have dementia friendly training and know how to make conditions easier for those with dementia. I was delighted to attend and I hope the group continues to go from strength to strength."
