Stronger Flood Defences Speech

Neil made an impassioned plea for better flood defences in the House of Commons. In a speech about the Environment Select Committee's recent report on future flood prevention, Neil called for far stronger action by Government to protect homes and communities from flood waters.

Neil intervened in the debate on Local Government Finance to call for greater support for rural businesses with their rates. The Government's business rate re-evaluation will change the taxes paid by many businesses in rural areas.

Neil asked Theresa May in Prime Minister's Question for justice in the Barry Pring case. The Devon businessman was unlawfully killed in Ukraine in 2008. Neil pressed for the Prime Minister to press the case, which has stalled over the past decade, with her Ukrainian counterpart.

Tougher Sentences for Animal Abusers

Neil spoke at a Parliamentary event, organised by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, to call for far stronger sentences for those convicted of animal cruelty offences. Neil gave his backing to the campaign for the maximum sentence for animal abuse to be increased from six months to five years.
