Tiverton Constitutional Club are celebrating the achievement of winning the UK’s prestigious Club “Committee of the year” 2013 final and coming close to winning the overall King of Clubs Title.
The Award, which was one of the most closely fought categories at the event, attracted over 12 000 entrants at the recent annual Club Mirror Awards that took place on November 21st 2013 at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.
The Club, based in Bampton Street Tiverton, were also finalists in two other categories: ‘ Innovative Club of the Year’ following Paul Moulding and Alan Manley’s work on the unique live-streaming of Pool Matches on the web and ‘Club Website of the Year’ for the Design of the club’s Website by David Westwood.
Club Chairman Richard Jones, said “I think it is Fantastic how well we have done and is absolutely brilliant, particularly when you realise how stiff the competition was. It is equivalent to winning an “Oscar” in our industry. It is also a fitting reward for all the hard work that has been put in by the members of our committee together with our Treasurer, Phil Gibbs and our Secretary, David Slack as well as the amazing support of our members, the Bar Steward Sarah Holley and the Bar staff, Sue, Serena, Darren, Debbie, Simon & Claire, who work tirelessly to make the club the success it is.
Club Member Brian Lane –Smith, who represented the club in Manchester, was presented with the award by Television personality and BBC Sports commentator, Hazel Irving, in front of an audience of over 500 people at the black-tie Gala Awards ceremony.
Commenting on the Award, Brian said “It was one of the most memorable evenings I have ever had and was fantastic. I am still buzzing from the experience and it is a tribute to the management of the club and its members; all of whom make the club what it is.”
The National Awards organised by Club Mirror the leading club Newspaper and magazine, are for all the Social & Sports Clubs in the UK, and this year attracted over 12,000 entrants with only the finalists and the very best of the industry being invited to attend the Gala. The Gala is a unique showcase for all the clubs in the UK.
The club was nominated for the awards by their Supplier, Greene King Plc.

The club, based in Bampton Street has been in operation since 1964 and recently underwent a substantial refurbishment. As well being a Social Club it has recently been involved this year in raising funds for the Tiverton Branch of Exeter Leukaemia Fund, FORCE and the Tiverton Community Transport Scheme and is shortly to organise the annual Children’s Xmas Party.
