Neil Parish MP welcomes new Government funding for jobs, apprenticeships and growth in Seaton

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, has welcomed new funding through the Coastal Communities Fund that will help to create jobs and give young people the skills they need to get on in Seaton.

£300,000 has been awarded to help regenerate Seaton through the creation of a Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – the first Natural World Heritage Site in England. A new visitor’s centre will house a café, shop and the Seaton Tourist Information Centre. This project will support the creation of 115 new jobs.

This funding is part of our long-term economic plan to build a stronger, more competitive economy in all parts of the country. By backing small business and enterprise and driving investment in our coastal communities, thousands of new jobs are being created, young people are getting the skills they need to get on and our seaside towns are becoming year-round success stories.

Neil Parish MP commented:

“For too long our coastal towns and communities were forgotten, suffering from neglect and economic decline which undermined local businesses and led to people moving away to find work elsewhere.

“That is why the Conservatives launched the Coastal Communities Fund – so that our great seaside towns can once again become year-round success stories. Thousands of new jobs and apprenticeships have already been created in coastal communities across the country and this new funding will provide a real boost to Seaton and create 115 new jobs for local people.

“This is what our long-term economic plan is all about – backing small businesses, creating more jobs so more families can enjoy the security of a regular pay packet and giving young people the skills they need to get on in life so that we build a stronger, more competitive economy and secure a better future for Britain. I would like to congratulate and thank East Devon District Council for all their hard work in securing this £301,594 to create a natural Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site visitor attraction.”
